Alysha Bohanon, Editor in Chief: Alysha is a senior at the University of Minnesota where she is majoring in journalism and English. Her work has appeared in The Minnesota Daily, Minnesota Meetings & Events, and Rochester Women’s Magazine, among others. When she’s not working on her own writing, you can find her working with students in the university’s Center for Writing, spending time with her fiancé Mike and their dog Sophie, or ranting about politics with anyone who will listen. After graduation, Alysha will attend the University of Minnesota Law School.
Hilary Gibney, Managing Editor: Hilary is a senior at the University of Minnesota, majoring in professional journalism with a focus in online magazines and social media. She is currently interning at Mpls.St. Paul Magazine and Twin Cities Business Magazine where she contributes as the Digital, Sales, and Marketing Intern. In her free time you can find her eating cupcakes, quoting Bachelorette, drinking Starbucks, and living vicariously through the life of Ke$ha. After graduation she hopes to travel through Europe with a glass of wine, and eventually find a job with a fashion magazine.
Brooklyn Hofstad, Managing Editor: Brook is a senior at the University of Minnesota, majoring in professional journalism. Type A, and a born couch potato, she loves all things pop culture, and she will forever defend *NSYNC as the ultimate boy band. After graduation she hopes to work in corporate communications as a media liaison. When she’s trying to avoid her homework, she can be found on her couch consuming obscene amounts of coffee and Netflix.
Alyssa Bluhm, Senior Editor: Alyssa is a senior at the University of Minnesota where she is majoring in journalism and minoring in psychology and German. Outside of Gen Me, she works as the editor-in-chief at The Wake magazine and as the marketing assistant for Paper Darts magazine, but still finds the time to take regular naps. When she graduates in the spring of 2014, she will pursue a career in magazine editing – but first she will probably adopt a puppy.
Annie Michaelson, Senior Editor: Annie is a senior at the University of Minnesota, majoring in journalism and minoring in French and English. After she graduates in May, Annie will begin working at Target Corporate in communications, adopt at least three dogs, re-watch every season of Friday Night Lights, and begin planning her next trip to Paris. She lives for coffee and new magazines.
Luke Hochrein, Senior Editor: Luke is a senior at the University of Minnesota pursuing a degree in Professional Journalism. In his free time he enjoys playing basketball and ultimate frisbee. Every once in a while he breaks out his old bass guitar and jams with his roommates. He loves going to concerts and is always searching for new music to listen to. After graduation, he hopes to take his love for music to the next level by finding a job with a music-focused publication.
Liz Hustad, Associate editor: Liz is a senior at the University of Minnesota pursuing degrees in Journalism and Political Science as well as a minor in History. Ultimately, she wants to work with an Arabic-language newspaper or in the Associated Press Cairo Bureau doing international reporting. Her work has appeared in the Downtown and Southwest Journals, the Forest Lake Times, and the Eden Prairie Sun Current. She likes reading history and the Russian classics, listening to country music, learning new languages, and watching Clint Eastwood movies.
Sara Potzmann, Associate Editor: Sara is a senior at the University of Minnesota and will graduate in December with a B.A. in Journalism and a minor in English Literature. After graduation, Sara hopes to get a job in copywriting or technical writing while doing some creative writing on the side. Sara has interned at Clear Channel Communications, with her work being published on the websites of K102 and Cities 97. She loves gorillas, creative writing, Green Day, Edgar Allan Poe, and zombies.
Matt Herbert, Associate Editor: Matt is a senior at the University of Minnesota, majoring in professional journalism and minoring in conservation biology. After graduation, Matt hopes to get a job with a travel magazine. He interns at The Loft Literary Center and has previously interned at National Geographic Traveler and the Minnesota Daily. Matt has had the opportunity of studying abroad in London and volunteering abroad in Peru and Nicaragua. In December, he plans on traveling to Thailand to study tigers for three weeks. Matt loves coffee, traveling, music and binge-watching tv shows on Netflix.
Kevin Somekawa, Associate Editor: Kevin is a graduating senior at the University of Minnesota majoring in professional journalism and cultural studies and comparative literature. He thoroughly enjoys funk/jazz music, playing guitar, watching hockey, and a good pair of wool socks. After graduation, Kevin plans to move to Colorado and hopes to stay true to his passion for music by seeking a job in music journalism.
Kelsey Schwartz, Art Director: Kelsey is a senior at the University of Minnesota, majoring in professional journalism and European history. Post-graduation, Kelsey hopes to get a design internship/job on the west coast at an outdoor magazine or company; One that hopefully allows dogs in the office. She is also looking into getting her AA in Graphic/Web design. Last summer she interned at IT Pro magazine in London, and she currently works as a designer for The Wake magazine. In her free time Kelsey loves to watch hockey, run, snowboard, design, and travel.
Jessica Lee, Assistant Art Director: Jessica is a senior at the University of Minnesota, majoring in professional journalism and minoring in mass communications. After graduation, Jessica hopes to move to California and pursue a career in entertainment news. Jessica has interned at The Uptake and Clear Channel Communications. Jessica loves bunnies, scary movies, traveling and anything by Malcolm Gladwell.
Brooke Binsfield, Assistant Art Director: Brooke is a senior at the University of Minnesota, majoring in professional journalism and minoring in child psychology. Although not completely sure what to do after graduation, Brooke is interested in Public Relations, Event Planning. If not at the Journalism school, she can be found on the Gopher football field or basketball court cheering for her fellow Gopher athletes.
Sarah See, Assistant Art Director: Sarah is a senior at the University of Minnesota, majoring in professional journalism and minoring in cultural studies and comparative literature. Her after-graduation plans include working with the non-profit organization of a student group she has been involved in since freshman year. Also within those plans, she hopes to put her journalism skills to use as she finally travels outside of the continental U.S. and eventually finds her way back to settling down in California. Aside from journalism, Sarah loves eating Thai food, playing acoustic guitar, and spending time with family and friends. She is a true introvert who gets excited about all things color-coded and organized by tabs.

Nicola Harger, Staff photographer: Nicola is a senior at the University of Minnesota, graduating in December with a B.A. in Professional Journalism and a minor in Teaching English as a Second Language. After graduation, she is planning on photographing weddings full-time in Minneapolis and doing documentary photo work on the side. She has done work for City Pages and the Star Tribune, along with multiple non-profit organizations within the Twin Cities area. Nicola has had the privilege of traveling to four different continents within the past few years and hopes to continue wandering the globe after graduation. She loves black coffee, cloudy days, writing and film.
Rebecca Harrington, Web Editor: Rebecca is a senior at the University of Minnesota who is graduating with a B.A. in Professional Journalism and a B.S. in Biology in May 2014. She plans to attend graduate school for science journalism in order to learn how to better communicate complex scientific topics to the public. She is an Associate Editor at the Minnesota Daily — the University’s student-run newspaper — where she was also the Science/Technology reporter for a year and a half. Rebecca loves to cook, laugh, and hear people’s stories. She is a self-professed nerd who voraciously reads and readily shares anything about science, technology, or random Internet happenings.
Brett Stolpestad, Web Art Director: Brett is a senior at the University of Minnesota, and is graduating in May 2014 with a B.A. in Professional Journalism, a B.A. in Philosophy, and a minor in art. Although he is unsure what the next step will be after graduation, Brett hopes to pursue his interests in photojournalism, Middle Eastern politics, history, or art. Brett is active within the art community as an employee of the Weisman Art Museum, and as a volunteer at the American Swedish Institute in Minneapolis. He loves to talk history, philosophy, and politics. He is also not afraid to admit that he is a devoted J.R.R. Tolkien and George R. R. Martin disciple.
Nicole Wait, Web Writer/Blogger: Nicole is a senior at the University of Minnesota who is graduating in December with a B.A. in Professional Journalism and a minor in Political Science. After graduation she hopes to combine her interests in politics and travel by documenting them through different multimedia platforms. She is currently the Video Production Assistant at the Learning Abroad Center. Nicole is a huge sports fan and wrote articles for local sports teams as a newspaper correspondent and even worked for the Gophers. She loves learning about American history, talking sports, and making plans for her next big adventure abroad.
